This is the substance of a letter from Peter Morgan to Rachel Bailey, Audlem Ward Councillor.
I understand that the track has been levelled that has provided so much fun to many of the village youngsters at no cost to the public purse, apart from possibly, its removal. Has C E done this work which I understand involved a JCB? If so, it is an extremely sad day, coming as it does, at the start of the summer holidays.
The village has experienced an upsurge in vandalism this year as an unruly cohort has made its presence felt and this appalling action on behalf of a higher echelon is guaranteed to exacerbate the problem and demonstrates beyond doubt how remote and lacking in common sense THEY are. I recall a campaign some ten or more years ago to provide a skate board play area at the rear of the car park but it was rejected as it may have caused some disturbance to local people.
These youngsters have been provided with nothing for their age group by CE who only seek to charge us for the use of the car park. Our roads are a potholed disgrace and they don't even empty the gulleys which leads to more surface erosion. Audlem is truly at the end of the line when it comes to every necessary aspect of public maintenance with the sole exception of petty bureaucracy, which is abundant.
I can imagine that the usual CE wet knicker philosophy will have played a substantial part in this decision, if indeed they are behind it. Suffice to say that my eldest son, now in his mid forties and a seasoned mountain biker, was well impressed with the set up and skills of the riders which we witnessed one evening and we thought it was a good use for a redundant piece of land, particularly one where in the past the ownership of it had been queried between the CRT and CE
