More on the story reported earlier on AudlemOnline about the local hit and run that led later to a death after a car collision.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has released a statement after a 22-year-old man died during a police chase.

The man, who was driving a Vauxhall Corsa, died after a collision with another car at the junction of the A53 and Sandy Lane in Baldwins Gate at around 10.00pm on Sunday, July 24.

The Corsa was being pursued by a marked West Mercia Police vehicle at the time.

The two passengers in the car were also injured and were taken to hospital where one is said to be in a critical condition while the other is described as 'walking wounded'.

The driver of the second car involved in the accident was also taken to hospital with a minor knee injury but was released after further treatment.

The driver of the Corsa is yet to be formally identified

In a statement the IPCC said: "The IPCC has begun an independent investigation and is appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic incident in Baldwin's Gate, Staffordshire, at around 10.00pm on Sunday, July 24.

"The IPCC was notified of the incident just after midnight on July 25th and sent investigators to the scene and to the post incident procedure to obtain accounts from the officers involved.

"We have also met with the family of the man who died, to explain our involvement and offer support.

"Our independent investigation will examine the actions of West Mercia Police officers prior to the collision.

"Anyone with information which may assist the investigation should call 0800 096 9070 or email witness@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk."
