Yesterday we reported on the theft and damage at George's Pork & Poultry brick building at the bottom lock by the canal.

We now have more details. The thieves stole a considerable amount of stock valued at about £250. Unfortunately, they left the freezer open on their leaving the scene resulting in more stock being damaged.

Not content with the thieving, they also damaged fruit and vegetable produce and, during their rampage, knocked over the shop's scales, seriously damaging them too.

The door and door frame will need major repairs and the brickwork has also been damaged. A police forensic team were on site yesterday. We understand there was likely to be lots of forensic evidence which may help to apprehend the culprits.

Three youths were seen in the vicinity at 12.30am on Wednesday morning and the break-in is thought to have happened around 1.00am. If anybody saw these people or anybody else very late at night on Tuesday/Wednesday in the vicinity, please let the police know.

Indeed, if you hear of information that might help find the culprits, please contact Danny George on 07814 080173 or Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000.
