I think a bit more explanation is needed! See yesterday' story)

Dr Christopher Hilton (formerly of Audlem) is the senior archivist at the Wellcome Trust – just opposite Euston Station. The Trust uses the fortune amassed in pharmaceuticals to collect and disseminate the information from medical records.

There is a big digitisation project and the records will be available to read free. Images may also be downloaded as long as they are not used for profit.

The seminar on medical records was organised by the Guild of One Name studies. (If you have an unusual surname do investigate).

Christopher described the records using the Bellyse family as an example. (He did mention the racier side of the cock fighter). Also how you can access them and then he took a party round the library.

He obviously loves his work and was very enthusiastic about spreading the information to a wider audience.

They are trying to make the building very welcoming with cafe, restaurant, reading room with free wi fi etc. The exhibitions are all free and if you have a little time to spare waiting for a train, well worth visiting.

Anyone with someone medical (even perhaps a vet) among their ancestors should have a look at their web site.
