Yesterday we started a series recapping on top stories from AudlemOnline in 2014.

Today we continue with a selection of news reports from March and April:

March 2014

  • Audlem Physiotherapist Philippa Butler moves on Tuesday 4th March to within Audlem Medical Practice building (Room 7)
  • CRT volunteers clean up towpath between Locks 14 and 15 that had been very muddy
  • Head Injured People Quiz raises over £1,000 in Audlem Public Hall
  • The second Gladman application to build 120 homes at Little Heath turned down by Cheshire East's Strategic Planning Board
  • The play 'The War to End all Wars' plays at the Scout & Guide Hall
  • Nantwich Baths reopen after a £1.4million redevelopment
  • The performers for the 2014 Party on the Park announced by ASET, Gambler; Onluy One Direction and The Legends. It proved to be a great party with a fabulous turnout
  • 'Railway Man' and 'Philomena' films play in the Public Hall film season
  • After ten years working at Williams' newsagents, Steve Naden has his last day in the job today and is off to a new career in engineering in Crewe.
  • Cheshire East Council announced a huge 'double cash boost' to bolster its drive to improve the Borough's roads and repair potholes.
  • A body found in woods near Audlem on 24th March was believed to be that of missing man Jez Cox. Police officers discovered the body in the Coole Lane area
  • Winegeek went on the move this weekend – opening on Tuesday 1st April at their new premises in the courtyard at Number 11 Cheshire Street.
  • AudlemOnline in March on BBC Radio Stoke started talking about local stories from the website – this has become a weekly summary of Audlem stories on the local radio station
  • ADAS Table Top Sale tomorrow Saturday, March 29th

April 2014

  • April 1st 'massive housing development' story exposed as a spoof after causing panic after so many genuine genuine massive housing development stories had turned out to be true!
  • NSPCC Fashion Show & Sale on Wednesday 2nd April at Brookfield Golf Club, Hankelow
  • Audlem Voices performed John Stainer's 'The Crucifixion' and other choral pieces from the Great Oratorios of Mendelssohn and Mozart on Saturday 5th April
  • Coffee & Biscuits and bell ringing on Saturday 5th April as a thank you to the village for the support given in raising funds to repair the church roof
  • Audlem Scout and Guide Hall will be closed from Sunday 6th April to Wednesday the 16th April Audlem Mill Art Exhibition Every Year Audlem Mill hosts an exhibition of what is, probably now, the largest number of canal paintings assembled anywhere
  • 2014 Audlem Events 12-page leaflet designed and printed in time for the start of the tourist and Events season by the web team
  • Audlem Lass starts its 2014 season – it was to carry over 4,000 passengers in its 4th year of operation
  • Motorcyclist came off his bike at around 9am on 8th April on the Woore Road in Audlem just before Paddock Lane. The motorcyclist seems to be OK
  • Burglary at the Co-op at 4.40am on 8th April
  • Hockenhull Development's application to build 26 dwellings on land to the east of Heathfield Road, Audlem was unanimously refused by Cheshire East councillors on 9th April. Consistency disappeared however in December when they eventually approved the third application
  • ARS, the Audlem Ramblers Society, went abroad for the first time – to the Isle of Man
  • The local Hospital Car Service which has been successfully run for many years by Audlem & District Amenities Society (ADAS) transferred to Audlem & District Community ActionADCA) Audlem in Bloom volunteers will be out in force in the village over a weekend. This eventually led to a Sliver Gilt Britain in Bloom award
  • Giant proposed solar park by Pegasus Group near Combermere five miles to to the west of Audlem
  • John Dwyer, Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner was the guest speaker at Audlem and District Probus Club on Thursday 10th April
  • Audlem Charity Shiop donates £27,500 to St Luke's Hospice, The Donna Louise Children's Hospice, The Wingate Centre, Audlem First Responders and Midlands Air Ambulance
  • A very noisy Sulphur Crested Cockatoo settles in Audlem for a few weeks attracting much attention
  • Successful charity car wash by Audlem Fire Fighters on April 12th
  • Snakes alive – beautiful grass snake reported in an Audlem garden attracting a big readership Snugbury's ice cream comes to Audlem Mill
  • A superb first-day hundred by Stu Stanway helps Audlem Cricket 1st XI beat visitors Norbury by 159 runs as cricket season gets underway
  • Audlem St James' school had been assessed by Ofsted as a 'Good School'
  • Russian aircraft buzzes Audlem – a Yak 11 in Russian military colours!
  • Shane Thompson leaves the Audlem Firefighters team after 15 years local service
  • Audlem Chainsaw 'Mishap' turned out not to be a massacre – a chainsaw fell from a van in the village and was never seen again
  • Successful Macmillan Charity Cake Sale at Boots
