Last Saturday saw eleven members of ARS, the Audlem Ramblers Society, enjoy a 7.4mile circuit from Bollington that took in rolling hills, a canal, disused railway line and a stretch of ridge that culminated at White Nancy – see top photo.

Mid-ARS walks were introduced this year and take place in those months with five Saturdays and have taken place so far in May (a walk near Bishops Castle in Shropshire) and last week's walk. The next Mid-ARS will be in October.

These walks are typically around seven or eight miles in length, are not too strenuous but can be further away from Audlem than the programme of Short-ARS walks (which are typically around five to six miles in length and generally within 30 – 40 minutes of Audlem).

Long-ARS walks take place on the second Saturday of each month and are normally eight miles and upwards in length and can range from relatively easy going ascents to tougher walks in the likes of Snowdonia, the Peak District and the wilder parts of Shropshire.

Whatever the walk, there is always time for a break for refreshments and a rest as the second photo from Saturday's walk shows.

The next walk is a Short-ARS walk on Saturday 29th which will be a six-mile circuit from Audlem car park at 9.30am taking in Lightwood Green, Brookes Mill, a short stretch of Coole Lane, mainly on fields and footpaths that are not often walked. More details next week.

Our thanks to Pauline Griffiths for the photos.
