Earlier this year, ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) introduced Mid-ARS walks – as the name suggest, longer than Short-ARS but shorter than Long-ARS walks – into its programme.
They take place in those months with five Saturdays which includes this month.
Steve Elliott will be leading the walk this coming Saturday. His description is as follows:
"This will be a moderate 7.5mile (12km) walk in the Peak District. It does have some reasonable height gain of 1935' (590m) due to two stiff but short climbs (no I don't mean that you need ropes – just that it's a bit steep!).
Starting from the Quiet Women pub in Earl Sterndale (there is easy parking on the road opposite the pub) the walk goes through Dowel Dale and then past Chrome Hill before looping round on paths and tracks before going through Hollinsclough village.
It then leads past Parkhouse Hill – a short detour/scramble for anyone who wants to go to the summit! We then return to the start.
Because of the height gain I'd rate it as a 3 booter.
Update: Following the recce today, and in view of it being a 1.5hr drive, and a 4 hour walk I now suggest an 8.30am start from Audlem car park so we should be back in Audlem 3.30- 4.00pm."
Non-members of ARS are welcome to join a walk but are expected to join after a trial walk or two (annual fee is £5). You must also have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, have water and be suitably fit for the various length walks.
