Audlem was back on BBC's North West Tonight programme as it resumed after the Christmas break.

On Saturday night, news broadcaster Mark Edwardson delivered a lengthy update on how the village has now raised over £80,000 for the Mend our Mum campaign, getting in sight of the £100,000 target to treat Berni Cliffe's gall bladder cancer, treatment that is not available on the NHS.

As all regular readers will know, the Mend our Mum campaign was started by Berni's daughters, Terri and Hannah and, after a number of successful fund-raising events, the Amazing Grace video was produced starring 1,100 local people which featured heavily in Mark's Edwardson's report.

Daughter Hannah said on the Saturday night news that Mend our Mum will continue after the target is met to try and raise money for other mothers in a similar situation.

Allan Brown from The Lord Combermere was interviewed, explaining that the pub's quiz night alone had raised over £5,000 and that the DVDs were flying out of the door.

Ralph Warburton proudly announced how Amazing Grace had reached Number One in the charts – it achieved top slot in the Religious & Gospel list of best sellers.

News broadcaster Mark Edwardson, photographed here in Audlem, covered the launch of the DVD two weeks ago live from Audlem and it was good to see him back in the village. A follow-up like this is quite unusual, a sign of how much broadcasters have appreciated the story and the community spirit that lies behind the Mend our Mum appeal.
