It has been Big Maths Week in Audlem St James' school this week which began with Mrs Stoker leading an assembly on Monday highlighting the Maths that surrounds us every day and how we can make Maths fun and 'bitesize' even when it seems tricky at first.

Each class has been exploring the wonders of maths including orienteering skills, planning and measuring for future plans and developments in the school grounds, using 'Superhero' skills to solve challenges and weighing and comparing ingredients for baking.

Pearl class shared a fun filled Maths Coffee Morning with their parents on Thursday estimating and measuring liquids and being creative with their maths problem solving skills! There was a real energy and buzz to their learning and it was wonderful that so many parents were able to join us for this.

Our week ends on Friday with a special sharing of work assembly where all of the classes will have the chance to find out about the news skills and learning classes have been experiencing.

As part of our week, we have sent home copies of 'How to Help' and 'Expectations' booklets based on the New National Curriculum raised expectations for this subject area.

Sapphire class also hosted their Guided Reading sessions for parents this week, with many relatives sharing their daily reading time to find out more about how we teach reading in school. These sessions are an opportunity for parents to get a snapshot of guided sessions in classes, including question prompts and challenges.

Sport

Two of our football teams represented our school at the Crewe Alex Cup competition at the Alexandra Soccer Centre on Monday. Although we didn't make it through to the next stage, it was close and Mrs Heathcock was incredibly impressed with both teams effort and enthusiasm.

Well done to both teams and thanks, as always, to the parents and carers who transported and supported the players.

A reminder that our Active Audlem session for staff, children and parents is next Wednesday from 8.30am.

Safety Online

You may have seen some of the advertising campaign for NSPCC recently as part of their 'Share Aware' work. This campaign is aimed at helping parents to keep their child safe on social networks.

The campaign is particularly relevant for parents of children aged 8-12 and aims to give information and advice in a straightforward and no nonsense manner. I am providing the hyperlink below for your information: http://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe/share-aware/

School Council News

Our School Council are sending home a letter today about our support for the British Heart Foundation's 'Wear It Beat It' Day on Friday 6th February. The children have chosen this charity as their National charity for this year linked to our HeartStart work in school.

They are asking us all to 'Wear Red' on this day to show our support for the lifesaving heart research the British Heart Foundation leads. Please look out for the details in your child's school bag.

Finally

Our school website is being updated all the time; we are currently adding new photographs of life in school and will be adding more over the coming weeks.

Please check the site regularly for updates and contact me if you have any further ideas or thoughts about items that you would like to see included on it.
