Our Chairman, Mrs. Margaret Hughes was delighted to welcome members and guests to the meeting and thanked Mrs. Judith Jones for all her hard work, for which she took great pleasure in presenting her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
We all then sang Jerusalem.
Our guest speaker for the evening was Judith Hibbert. Her career has included television, pantomime and musical theatre, meeting many famous names of the show business world.
She said that both her children are talented artistes – one of them playing the role of Demelza in the recent BBC production of Poldark. Her son is a singer who is also studying at the Sorbonne, in Paris.
Judith's presentation tonight was entitled "Around the Wireless" and included songs by Julie Andrews, Gracie Fields and Joyce Grenfell, with songs by all three artists holding her audience in amazement with her fabulous voice, her acting skills and her humour which kept us all laughing throughout her performance.
During her performance, she told us little stories of the famous names she had worked with and had us all close to tears when she spoke about the return to England of "Our Gracie".
Judith ended her performance with a rendition of "Please Remember Me". But how could any of us forget such a talented and hilarious performer!
