Two major road schemes to improve road links to the M6 have been approved by the Government.
More than £6.5 million is earmarked for widening the A500 single lane approach to Junction 16 and on a road link to Basford West at Crewe.
Work will start in spring 2014 and end traffic congestion for thousands of drivers caught in long queues every day approaching the M6 junction 16.
The A500 widening includes a second lane for about 500m with a third lane on the approach to the signals at J16.
Work will also be carried out to widen the Junction 16 roundabout at a cost of around £2.8 million. Work should start in May 2014, and be completed by March 2015.
Earlier this year, Cheshire East Council secured more than £7 million to fund improvements to Junction 16 slip roads and to install traffic signals.
Meanwhile, the Government has allocated an extra £4.7 million for the new Basford West Spine Road from the A500, which will link the Gresty Road corridor into the centre of Crewe. Work here will start in March 2014 and be completed by December 2014.
In other schemes announced this week, the heavily congested section of M6 between J16 and J19 will get a new CCTV system installed at a of cost £1.4 million with work on this scheduled from July 2014 to February 2015.
And a further £2 million is to be spent on improvements at J17 Sandbach aimed at cutting the delays for traffic using sliproads leaving the M6 both north and south with a new roundabout and traffic signals.
