Next Saturday's walk is led by Jean Stainthorpe on the Long Mynd. The walk is 8½ miles long, with 1600ft ascent, some steep but short ascents and descents, ridge walking and few stiles.

We start in Carding Mill Valley, with a steep ascent up Lightspout Waterfall onto the ridge, needing a little scrambling in places. We then walk south west to Pole Bank with superb views across the range of hills if the weather is kind to us. We drop down to Little Stretton and return via Rectory Wood.

We meet on Audlem car park at 8.30am on Saturday 13th February to drive to the Carding Mill National Trust car park (post code given as SY6 6JG, but not checked it on satnav). Travelling south on the A49 from Shrewsbury turn right into Church Stretton (B4371), continue up the main street to the cross roads at the top, turn right onto the B5477 (High Street) signed to Carding Mill Valley. After about a third of a mile turn left into Carding Mill valley as signposted. Continue about half a mile to the car park but NOT past the visitor centre. There are toilets and a tea room at the Visitor Centre. Parking is free to National Trust members, £2.50 to non-members.

The walk is reasonably dog-friendly involving few roads but there are sheep on the hills.

All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry water (and snack if required) and be suitably fit for the walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.

Non-members of ARS are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
