There were a number of lively debates at Monday's Audlem Parish Council meeting. These included a discussion, which went to a vote, over whether the council should get involved in the current school issue over governance.

It was proposed by a number of councillors that letters should be sent to both the St James' school governors and Cheshire East Council in order to establish the current situation at the school – Audlem Online understands that Cheshire East has now applied to the Secretary of State for Education for the appointment of an Interim Executive Board to replace the current local governors.

After a vote, where a number of councillors deemed such a move inappropriate, the Parish Council resolved not to send letters with three councillors voting against that decision.

PC Iain Condliffe warned that outbuildings such as sheds and farm buildings were seeing thefts of tools etc. These buildings needed to be secured as there had been a number of incidents. He can be contacted on Iain.condliffe@chire.pnn.police.uk">Iain.condliffe@chire.pnn.police.uk or on 0845 458 6378 if you see anything suspicious.

Banning dogs from the playing field was also discussed which will need the assistance of the Cheshire East dog warden and perhaps a local bye law.

In another lively debate, questions were raised about the 17% increase in the Parish Precept this year. This had been debated and agreed in the council's finance committee. It was agreed that the minutes of some subgroups would be published on Audlem Online in future but that minutes were available for all who wanted to read them.

It may be mid-summer, but the council was asked to look forward now to ensure there was an adequate gritting facility in winter as issues raised earlier this year about grit had not, as yet, been resolved. Cheshire East will be asked to include Audlem car park on the regular winter gritting schedule.

There is no Parish Council meeting in August and the next meeting is on Monday 5th September. The minutes of this week's meeting are now published on Audlem Online – click on the link below the photo.
