This is Coxbank resident Pete's report after three days of his bike ride from Land's End to John O'Groats, raising funds in support of Macmillan Cancer Support:

At the end of day three of the ride, camping just outside Bridgewater in Somerset. The first day was tremendous – sun, tailwind, lots of hills but fresh legs. Day two is generally reckoned to be the hardest of the route and Joe and I would certainly agree with that!

We set off from St Austell in rain and the hills were relentless, right from the start, with no respite. The rain stopped as we crossed the Tamar and said goodbye to Cornwall. Unfortunately, Devon is as hilly as Cornwall...

We dropped in on Pete's in-laws on the edge of Dartmoor for coffee and then did the full traverse of the moor, finally dropping into Moretonhamstead and a very welcoming B&B. If you're ever in the area then we can highly recommend The Old Post House – 5 stars in our book, and the owners sponsored us as well.

Yesterday we set off in the rain again, immediately hitting a string of 1:5 and 1:4 epic ascents. Once through Crediton and Tiverton the hills eased off, only to be replaced by a stiff headwind as we slogged across North Somerset.

Finally got to today's campsite near Bridgewater, where the support crew had got the tents up and dried. Curry night*. Tomorrow we head through Cheddar Gorge, Clifton Gorge and camp again somewhere near Gloucester, depending on how tough the headwind is.

Looks like Audlem for Thursday now, with tired legs- but still going strong.

Thanks everyone for your support, thinking about upping our fundraising target since we're getting close to the £1,000 mark already.

*Ed – should be a good tailwind tomorrow then!
