Latest news on Berni (updated)

After a few health updates about Berni Cliffe from Houston, Texas, which were getting more optimistic about her recovery from her recent major surgery, the latest bulletin from husband Colin is less good.

He writes: "Sorry been at the hospital all the time, they have been chopping and changing her pain killers and she has just got worse and worse. Her heart rate is through the ceiling, they have now put her back on the original pain killers now and the pain is easing but the heart is still racing furiously.

We have spoken to so many doctors and surgeons it is unbelievable and I now get the impression they are going round and round in circles.

Berni has virtually all her drains back in. They have just told us she is not to walk any more until they control the heart.

AudlemOnline adds: We have only used parts of Colin's email for privacy reasons but we are sure all back home will be wishing Berni well.

The bulletin above was received on Sunday evening but we have just (Tuesday morning) received an update, which says:

Mixed news this morning, stayed again with her last night, they are controlling her heart with beeta blockers and it is now beating as it should however she has difficulty breathing at the moment.

They have discovered a build up of fluid on her lungs, she is having a procedure today to drain it. Had a good chat with her doctor this morning and he says everything that is happening is not to be unexpected and that he believes she will turn a corner shortly. However she will probably need another week in hospital.

She can start walking again tomorrow and hopefully eating the following day so she is quite excited about that, will keep you all posted.
