We received this as a chatbox entry from Ralph's son, Jonathan Hight-Warburton. We thought it should be published, with Jonathan's agreement, as an article.
Quick update on my father, Ralph Warburton of Buerton, for anyone interested.
Following a fairly catastrophic stroke last summer, dad is being well cared for in a home. He has lost mobility and speech, but is otherwise ok.
He and my mother adored being accepted into Audlem life when they moved here from Lancashire in the late eighties. At that time they faced an uncertain future after my father had had a life changing heart attack, and they moved to enjoy an uncertain amount of time in a beautiful and peaceful part of the world. My impression is that they found so many incredible new people and hopefully friends who welcomed them warmly, not least long time residents the Bonnels. Amazing people.
From my perspective, Mum and Dad threw themselves into every aspect of village life with the hope of making things better for people. From the earliest days they wanted to make Buerton, and Audlem and Woore, their happy home. My eighties memories of lunches at the Falcon which had the best food ever served' (it didn't!) to a thirty year commitment to every bloody meal being at the Comber, they both adored you all.
My parents met so many incredible people here. I know your names better than I know some people I have worked with for years. You all were a huge impact on them both.
Mum tagged out in 2000. Dad continued because of you. He loved being a part of you. Sometimes you being the priority was horrible, but you are a quite incredible community. I'm glad Mum and Dad were here with such a diverse, interesting and supportive bunch.
Thank you all.
