A successful AGM of Audlem District History Society was held last Thursday when the year's varied meetings and activities were recounted.

A break for refreshments gave all present a welcome opportunity to look at the display mounted by June Perry. The impressive timeline charting the history of Audlem Methodist Church, linked to developments both locally and nationwide, was especially fascinating and created a great deal of interest.

Even though detailed records are unavailable, we were then shown a very informative film, made by John Owen, to celebrate 150 years of the Church. A moving performance in the Church by the famous organist Peter Crompton brought the film to a fitting conclusion.

Several interesting points were raised during the subsequent question time. The word Methodist probably came about because of John Wesley's methodical way of working. The origins of the word chapel and if there is a distinction between a chapel and a church was also discussed.

The Society would like to thank all those who have spoken at our meetings throughout 2013.
Our final event of the year is Christmas lunch at The White Lion, Hankelow on Tuesday, December 10th at 12 noon.
