The Audlem Lass began its fifth season, at Overwater Marina, on Good Friday 3rd April 2015, a cold and wet start. At the same time we began a social media campaign, kicking off with announcements on 'AudlemOnline', to publicise The Audlem Lass Boat Service and the facilities at Overwater Marina. Such publicity helps to keep the public up to date on what is happening on a daily/weekly basis on the Lass.

Our Facebook page had 27 'likes' at the beginning of the season. This has grown steadily over the summer to an encouraging 660. Printed leaflets have been distributed to over seventy locations within the general catchment area and new display boards sited around Audlem village and along the Shropshire Union Canal.

More volunteers are always needed to help us maintain the boat service, and our 2015 Campaign generated three new young crew members under the age of 18 and five adults. Adults are RYA certified to helm the boat. This gives a present total of 27 volunteers and we continue to encourage new volunteers to join our Team.

The weather seemed to be against us during the 2015 Season as there were some unseasonably cold and wet weekends, particularly during June & July. However, our passenger numbers held up well as we had carried over 4,500 passengers when the Season ended on 25th October, as well as 314 dogs!

Not only does The Audlem Lass offer a weekend/bank holiday boat service between Overwater Marina and Lock 15, it can also be chartered for mid-week trips for groups wanting to combine the boat trip with a picnic, a walk, and other similar social event where age is no barrier. All proceeds after costs incurred in providing the service are donated to charitable causes.

Enquiries for such trips should be made by telephone to Campbell Ward at 01270 812430, email: hello@audlemlass.co.uk

In recognition of the needs of those using wheelchairs for their mobility, a sister boat The Maughan Lass was brought into service during July 2015. This is called the Maughan Lass Wheelyboat, has been designed with the wheelchair user in mind, and those who use other mobility aids. It has 'roll on-roll off' wheelchair access and enhanced stability.

Since July The Wheelyboat has carried over 300 people and for some this was their first experience of travelling on a canal. The service runs between April and October on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and bookings, which need to be made in advance, can be arranged by telephone to Overwater Marina on 01270 812677, email: info@overwatermarina.co.uk or website: overwaterwheelyboat.co.uk

The Audlem Lass and The Maughan Lass Wheelyboat Service look forward to a successful 2016 Season when it begins at Easter 2016.
