Many locally will have learned that well-known Audlem resident Joseph Heler died on 10th July. He passed away peacefully in Leighton Hospital, Crewe, aged 88 years.
He was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and great-grandfather and founder and Chairman of Joseph Heler Cheese and Joseph Heler Farms.
Joseph Heler founding his own company in 1957 – Joseph Heler Cheese. He began making 40lb rounds of unpasteurised Cheshire cheese and quickly gained a reputation for consistently high quality products.
Success continued and Joseph Heler Cheese developed as a business through the 60's, making a pioneering move to produce Cheshire cheese in 20kg blocks during the 70's, and in 1983, in line with changes in the industry, began making pasteurised cheese and later producing different varieties of traditional regional cheese, such as Red Leicester and Double Gloucester.
Based at nearby Hatherton, through the 1990's and then the turn of the century, Joseph Heler Cheese continued to establish itself as one of the country's most respected producers of British cheese.
The photograph, taken three years ago, shows three generations of the Heler family, Joseph, George and Michael. all involved in the business.
A memorial Service will take place at St Mary's Church, Nantwich on Tuesday 6th September at 2.00pm.
