History of Audlem Fire Brigade

The next meeting of the Audlem District History Society on Thursday 19 October will be a very special occasion looking at the history of the village's fire brigade.

Former fire-fighters Bob Poole, Dave Roberts and Izzy Sykes (can you spot them in the photo?) will lead a presentation of the work of the brigade since it was created in the late nineteenth century, showing how it has evolved but remained a vital part of the community. That story includes several remarkable firsts in the history of fire-fighting.

There will also be a display of photographs and other records and of uniforms and equipment.

This talk will be a unique opportunity to learn about the Audlem fire brigade from those with unparalleled knowledge of its operations and will be of interest to all ages. Non-members are particularly welcome.

The meeting takes place in the Scout and Guide hall in Cheshire Street and starts at 7.30pm.
