In 1980, A History of Mills in Audlem was published. Did you have a copy which is now lost? Or perhaps you weren't in Audlem at that time?

Well now is your chance as it has been reprinted and the Canal shop at Audlem Mill has plenty of copies at £4.50 each.

As a result of a Keele class (now we hear these are going to be extinct) in the early '70s the Audlem District History Society was formed. Two members, Charles Marshall and Gordon Meredith visited the remains of all the mills and spoke to descendants of the millers.

They wrote it up with clear maps and diagrams of the mill races and mechanisms. Thirty years on, much of this evidence has gone which shows the importance of recording what you can, when you can.

Mills covered are: Brooks Mill (possibly known as Chelley Mill) nr Lightwood Green which was there before 1135; Audlem Old Mill which was by the brook to the right of the footpath going from Mill lane to Monks Lane; Audlem New Mill is usually known as Swanbach Mill; Hankelow Mill; Buerton Windmill and Kingbur Mill at the Wharf (now the Mill shop) and a few more.

Don't delay, it might be another 30 years before it is reprinted again!
