So- back in then UK from the turbulence of Catalonia and all the goings on as adversaries gather as if in a bull ring. I wonder which will win. The massive black bull of Madrid or the bejewelled Barcelona matador -- with the rapier sword as they try to prick the big city fathers away from their very green and prosperous state .
I fear much anger will be around for some time as folks turn against neighbours in their arguments .
But. Enough .

To the game.

This day we face the Barrel and Tap team who were previously known as Crewe FC. I travel from my house into the village and to the Co-op for two reasons. One to buy the delicious buttery croissant's and also to place an order with Dan Morris our very willing and community minded manager , for wines beers and soft drinks that I will be dispensing next Saturday night at the bar in the public hall for the NSPCC quiz night.

I then drive off alone to the Bentley sports ground and the Legends playing field for the match.
We have a good turnout of 16 players whom Kev Rodgers our manager has gathered together for the day. I do feel Kev is to be complimented on the way the team is being organised and bringing in new players for this season. In addition he has organised our brand Audlem FC training jackets which are extremely smart and I will get a photograph of one of us in these as soon as I can for the website.

Referee today is David Bloor -- a reasonable referee who brooks no nonsense but in the main is fair judge of a game. Changing room facilities are poor considering that this is the Bentley sports complex. The ones we have will have in our new Annexe to the Hall here in Audlem will far outshine many many many of the grounds we go to.

Kick Off
Kickoff is sharp at 11 o'clock and we have four new players on the books for today.
Quite fast play but I say to myself will the team keep this pace up for 90 minutes. I live in hope as usual and say to myself we shall see just what we can do. The last few games have been poor results with losses and conceding some 19 goals. As witness to that was last Sunday when we were leading 2-0 at half time and then conceded five goals in the second half.
Our team plays with heart and and we are on top of the game. Shape is good and we are playing really well and truly like a team. Break up field met by Andrew Betteley (Beco) who crosses beautifully and this is met by Mark Parker who puts it away for our first goal
1-0
10 minutes later referee books one of their players with a yellow card for pushing.
Their first shot at goal – and they score!
1-1
1st corner is given to us -- followed by the second corner to us.
We get a freekick just outside the box and Mark Bell takes and scores.
2-1
New players are bedding in very well and we are playing like a team . Good shape and good effort.
Half time.
Player troop of for their water and a TeamTalk that is full of confidence as it should be when we are in the lead

1145 . Second half

Players all keen to get on with the game .
Very grey cloudy skies and temperature dropping as my hands feel the cold sitting here writing my notes.

1156. Free kick to us and ball is passed to Ross Henderson -- who scores.
3-1 !!
We are truly on top of the game with good passing and determination
1205 and some sloppy defence work on our part lets them score a goal
3-2
1210 and Joe Benson comes on as Danny Mahoney comes off. All the team still playing hard and with heart and then lo and behold -- Beco scores a tremendous goal
4-2
1222. Great run by Beco and he scores again
5-2 is the score.

Coach team on the sidelines play the subs and we continue to play with heart and more importantly as a team. There are tired legs out there but by gosh there are strong hearts too.
So all in all a great game of football -- played as a team and with heart and more importantly a desire to win. The players go off to enjoy a glass or two in Nantwich whilst I return to go for a very welcome luncheon laid on for my recent birthday. Beautiful food ,beautiful companionship ,fine wines ,excellent brandy and a superb raspberry and chocolate cake.
Our next game is away again to the cricketers FC

As I said before we do not play our home games for a while as I try to get the pitch into some decent condition. Our first home game of the season will be played on 26th November -- a week after the very grand opening of the new Annexe.
