The appeal recently lodged by Gladman Developments over housing at Little Heath takes the tally of planning appeals now being fought by Cheshire East Council to 46.

According to the Planning Inspectorate website today there are 46 planning appeals for Cheshire East currently marked as in progress.

The cases range from individual appeals over the refusal of planning permission for single dwellings to complex appeals over large housing estate scheme by speculative developers over conditions that were included with the original planning approval

And the Audlem appeal is not the only one that Gladman Developments currently has lodged with Cheshire East.

The Planning Inspector has not yet decided the outcome of an appeal inquiry last month over the refusal to allow Gladman to build 155 houses on land off Sandbach Road North, near Alsager.

Among the other appeals closer to home are plans for 10 homes on land at Audlem Road Hankelow and a bid by the Muller Property Group to erect 189 homes off Peter de Stapleigh Way in Nantwich.

David Wilson Homes is also pursuing permission for 54 dwellings in Shavington, Wainhomes wants permission for 21 houses at Willaston and Wulvern Housing want to build 17 affordable homes in Shavington.

Cheshire East recently lost an appeal by Gladman Developments to build 270 homes at Queen's Drive in Nantwich.

Cheshire East had tried to get the number of homes reduced but Gladman appealed on non-determination of the original scheme and won after Cheshire East decided not to contest the appeal.

In allowing the appeal is it notable that the Secretary of State agreed with the Inspector's conclusions that the "Council's housing land supply policies cannot be considered as up-to-date."

The failure of Cheshire East Council to formulate an up-to-date policy on housing supply is thought likely to lie at the heart of the Audlem appeal hearing.
