The Borough of Crewe and Nantwich is now just a memory but CANTA, the Crewe and Nantwich Twinning Association, lives on.
It receives a small grant from Cheshire East to facilitate contacts between the residents of the old borough and its twin towns. CANTA has helped fund cultural and sporting visits, bought web-cams for local schools and helped them organise e-twinning.
Mâcon, in the famous wine producing region of Burgundy, is one of our twin towns. CANTA has received a request from a young 'professional' golfer who will complete his training in Vichy (one of the four French national golf schools) at the end of the current season.
His home is in Chalon sur Saône, and he began a one year practical training period in Mâcon last autumn. His time is shared between Vichy and Mâcon. His handicap is around zero!
In May 2012 he would like to come to England for two months to improve his English and get more familiar with British culture.
He would like to find a famille d'accueil – paying for full board but in a warm, intellectual and sporting context. In exchange for help with his English he would give free golf lessons at all levels. We understand from a contact in Mâcon that he is a real gentleman and a fine sportsman.
If you are interested in hosting this young man please contact Carol Lightfoot, the CANTA Secretary, on 01270 568302 or e-mail secretary@canta.org.uk">secretary@canta.org.uk. If you would like to know more about CANTA visit its website at www.canta.org.uk.
