You may be wondering why the photo shows a snowy scene – well, read on.

As well as our report today on sightings of False Widow Spiders in Bagley Lane, residents there have also been dealing with a rather over-confident fox, thought to be a male.

The fox is seen regularly along the lane and visiting properties but went somewhat further recently when it entered a conservatory and stole a slipper. The householder spotted the intruder which would not release the slipper. In exasperation the other slipper was thrown outside on the basis the fox may as well have both.

This will, of course, make tracking the pesky beast easier, particularly when the first snow arrives this winter. Two size 9s followed by two fox prints should be very distinctive and easy to spot and follow.

Then again, perhaps the fox will wear the slippers on his hind legs.
