Flags in the village

I like the flags in the village, I wish they could be kept in place all year round, but then we wouldn't have the Christmas trees, and I like the Christmas trees.

I think the flags are displayed at the start of Audlem's fantastic events, Festival of music, transport and carnival activities. They brighten up the village and the Union Jack is our national flag – a symbol of pride. Many, many years ago I had the privilege of carrying the union jack on parade, it was a great honour.

I asked Ralph how many flags there are around the village. When he told me, I tried to put some meaning to the number. I looked at the two world wars as it will soon be Remembrance Day. Would each flag represent a life lost from the village in the two wars? Taking the number of British military and civilians killed in both first and second world wars, each flag represents 29,946 lives ( No accurate number can be made as figures vary from source to source) With this in mind I look at the flags in a different light.

So thank you Ralph, and your team, you all do a fantastic job in the village and to those who think otherwise:
