First Night of Pollyanna

The story of Pollyanna was nicely told in the performance at the Methodist Church last night, with a mixture of humour, pathos and a heart-warming final scene.

Alice Plows played the role of Pollyanna with confidence and panache, ably supported by the rest of this group of talented young people.

All the words and music for the production were home-grown; the script by Jean Gunstone and Val Warner; the tunes and lyrics by Naomi and Toby Newman; and choreographed and produced by Nancy May Goodwin.

Naomi and Toby were also the "orchestra", and, as always, the performance was well supported by the choir.

The chorus line of Orphans, especially the youngest one at the end, was an instant hit.

The filmed sequences provided good links for the story, with the added interest of the filming having taken place around a well-known local "stately home".

Once again, this annual production demonstrates the wealth of musical and acting talent that there is in the village as well as boundless technical and backstage support from a dedicated team which has been working on Pollyanna for over six months.

Pollyanna is well worth seeing, and if you can find a ticket and go along, then you are certain to be "glad", as Pollyanna herself would say.
