Festival success as thousands visit

We have praised ASET, the Audlem Special Events Team, so many times, perhaps on this occasion we will leave it to others. These comments came into the Chatbox last night:

"Well done ASET and all the extra helpers! Today's Transport Festival was a lot of fun and very well organised. I had the good fortune to be an exhibitor and visitor for the first time and I had a blast! Audlem should be very proud :-).

And:-

"Thank you again to all of the team responsible for the Festival of Transport today. A really great day. I was taking part this year and spoke to so many from far and wide all of whom spoke so highly of this festival and of the village it is in.

"It has been said so many times before how lucky we are to have a group of folk willing to give up so much time to make these things happen....but it won't hurt to say it once more. Thank you."

It was an incredible feat of organisation to fit so many vehicles so smoothly on the Playing Field.

Your reporter also heard words of praise from visitors for Bill Consterdine's commentary as the parade passed through the village centre. His humour and knowing so much about the vehicles clearly went down extremely well.

It was also quite a feat of organisation down on the canal where possibly the largest number of historic narrow boats ever seen in Audlem somehow floated into place.

The towpath crowds were enormous and, just possibly, the occasional showers were turned to advantage as the crowds packed out the canal-side pubs and Audlem Mill as they sought shelter.

Peter and Christine Silvester had earlier provided a great party for the visiting boat crews and, yesterday, entertainment galore for the crowds along the canal viewing the fabulous narrow boats on show.

It was another cracking Audlem weekend, and our thanks to ASET and Audlem Mill for making it all possible.
