A farmer has been given the green light to erect a large new farm building at Lightwood Green, near Audlem.

Plans to build a cow cubicle shed at Lower Lightwood Green Farm went before Cheshire East Southern Planning Committee because it exceeded the minimum 1,000 square metres allowed in the open countryside.

Councillors gave planning consent for the new shed, subject to the normal conditions.

The purpose-built shed will allow farmer Chris Dodd to overwinter cattle indoors and allow the farm to expand and develop, according to a planning application.

A planning officer's report to councillors said: "It is considered that the proposal would have a minimal impact upon the character of the Open Countryside, be of an acceptable design, would have a minimal impact upon neighbouring amenity, would not have a detrimental impact upon protected species and would be to Highways' satisfaction."
