The end of an era

A very familiar figure around Audlem for an amazing 48 years retired today.

Stuart has been delivering milk to the area since he was a teenager and, like any traditional milkman, has helped many people on his rounds. This morning, his customers found a note with their delivery. It said:

"As I am sure you will appreciate I am not getting any younger and sadly a job I once loved has become increasingly difficult.

"After a great deal of thought and with regret I accepted that this year, for the sake of my health, I needed to make retirement plans.

"Since the summer I have been making efforts to find someone who could take over my round and I am now able to confirm that Fred Shone and Son will be taking over from me on 28th October 2010.

"After this date please make any cheques payable to F.E.O Shone and Sons and be aware that your delivery and collection times may alter. If you require any further information Mr Shone can be contacted on 01270 841480.

"I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all my customers both old and new who have supported me during the 48 years I have spent delivering milk to your doorsteps.

"Once again many thanks
Stuart"

We are sure that all who know Stuart will wish him well in his well-deserved retirement. After forty eight years, it really does seem like the end of an era.
