You might have been forgiven this week if you had thought that the Scout and Guide Hall had turned into a comedy club, judging by the amount of laughter coming from the hall. June Corner is a hilarious speaker and her passion for all things historical is clear. The talk itself was entitled 'Naughty but Nice' and took a look at the evolution of undergarments. We began way back in the 1890's when the items were hand stitched and made to grow with the owner and, as we moved forwards through time, stopping to see that every now and again things are remodeled on the past. There was much laughter as she explained how the laced up bodices were worn and the huge pants kept you warm. We saw all-in-one 'keep you warm' thermal garments and the modern skimpy items available today. A quick visit to Janet Reger and the morning was rounded off nicely.

I have to admit that my sides were a little sore after so much laughter but everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip through the years and some had a few childhood memories as well.

Our branch has had a busy time lately and last week some of our members had a quick jaunt 'up north' to visit Bombay Stores and Texere Yarns. It was a fabulous trip and all of us came back with more than we had intended to – lots of beautiful fabrics and lovely yarns and threads. I am guessing that some of these purchases will be seen again as pieces of work in our next exhibition, so be sure to come along and take a peak.

Our next meeting, 15th July, will be for members only.
