Elephant Grass

Your editor was reminded of the many acres of Elephant grass near Market Drayton when he spotted this train just outside of Liverpool on a recent visit.

Currently only one type of miscanthus is (possibly was?) grown in the UK for combustion for low-carbon electricity generation.

It was thought that there was a problem of too much ash from elephant grass for the power station to operate efficiently, so not sure if this train (and it is very long!) is for micanthus or for some other biomass.

From Norman Huntbach this morning:-
The miscanthus or Elephant Grass growing at Tyrley and also many other places in a 15 mile radius of Raleigh Hall, Eccleshall goes to fuel a 2.6 MW generating plant there which is enough to supply all 2,600 homes in Eccleshall.
