As D-day approaches on 4th May, when there is a controversial local referendum where people will be asked if they want an elected mayor, opponents of an elected mayor for Crewe & Nantwich Borough are unveiling their plans saying the costs would be enormous and could lead to a 20% rise in Council Tax. In contrast, would-be mayor Joseph Ephraim claims he can half Council Tax bills if given the job. This claim has been dismissed as ridiculous as less than 15% of Council Tax bills go to the Borough with the bulk going to Cheshire County Council for services such as education. It could be an interesting few weeks!
