Audlem's two cricket teams had a torrid time last Saturday as both slumped to defeat in low scoring games.
Unfortunately there isn't a full 1st XI report this week, however, they were comprehensively beaten by Holmes Chapel in the Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division 2 fixture at the Gorse Croft. The visitors won the toss and put Audlem in to bat on a tricky wicket. The home team capitulated and were all out for just 72. Chapel easily knocked off the runs to win by 9 wickets to gain 20 points, whilst Audlem gained just 1. The match was sponsored by Peter Roscoe Financial Services.
The 2nd XI travelled to Capenhurst for the Division 4 fixture and put up a great fight before being beaten by 3 wickets. Skipper John Wainwright lost the toss and Capenhurst's skipper elected to field on a damp wicket. His decision proved to be right as Audlem slumped to 13 for 3. A rally by Toby Banfield and Dave Parry took the score to 41 before both were out on the same score. After that only Graeme Jones put up any resistance as the visitors were all out for 67. Only Banfield (15) and Jones (18) reached double figures as Ian Hart ripped through Audlem's batting with 7 for 28.
Capenhurst's reply started badly as Jones and Parry took the first five wickets with just 20 runs on the board. When Roy Wild took the sixth wicket to reduce the home team to 30 for 6, an unlikely win looked to be on the cards. However, a match-winning stand between Tom Colclough and Jack Hoppins took the score to 58 before Jones had Colclough caught by Zar Ahmed. Hoppins (23 not out) and Adam Walking saw Capenhurst past the winning post. Jones took 3 for 20 and Parry 3 for 14 as Capenhurst gained 20 points and Audlem 4.
On Saturday the 1st XI travel to Kerridge for a match sponsored by Geoff Seddon, whilst the 2nd XI, still looking for their first win, welcome Appleton to the Gorse Croft. Both matches start at 2.00 pm.
