The Dorothy Clive Garden is an independent, twelve acre, charitable garden trust managed by an umbrella organisation, The Willoughbridge Garden Trust. Charity number: 522695

The Hot & Spicy chilli event features freelance food writer, Sumayya Usmani, and three chilli contests with great prizes on Sunday 21st September 2014 from 10am to 5.30pm as a special fundraising event for the garden.

As well as food, drinks and entertainment, there will be 3 competitions taking place on the day:

  • The Best Chilli Sauce Contest (both amateur and professional categories) to be judged by freelance food writer and chef Sumayya Usmani. Amateur prize: Gift voucher for icookindianco.uk. Professional prize: a hamper of food related items.
  • UK Chilli Cook Off (regional heat). First prize: to the value of £200. Second prize: A barrel of beer from woodlandsbrewery.co.uk. Final takes place in Brighton where the champion will win a week's vacation (including accommodation and flights) to Las Vegas, where they will enter the Chilli Cook Off World Championship!   • A Chilli Eating Contest – up to 20 contestants will go head-to-head and eat whole chillies grown at the Dorothy Clive Garden. The last remaining man, wins the competition: first prize is a barrel of Olde Peculier Beer and dinner for two (donated by theoldepeculiar.co.uk). Entries taken on the day.

Food writer and cookery teacher, Sumayya Usmani will judge both the amateur and professional best Chilli Sauce Contest on the day. Contest entrants, both amateur and professional still have time to enter. To enter, please email:

Admission to this special fundraising event will be £3.50 per adult, free for children between 0-4 and £2.00 for children over 4 and under 18 years and members of the Dorothy Clive Garden are admitted for free.

The event will start at 10.00am and end at 5.30pm. The garden will then be open every
weekend in October from 10am to 4pm.
