Residents in the Littleheath area recently received a letter informing them that this week a new sewer pipe would be laid from the Anwyl development to connect into the main sewer at Heathfield Road. The letter informed it's readers that, other than minor excavations at each end, the pipe would be laid "trenchlessly".

For readers such as your correspondent, who have no comprehension of how this could be done, meet Ditch Witch – a Wizard at work!

Ditch Witch drills a long narrow tunnel underground by attaching a drill bit to flexible extension rods which can be added as required, which in this case is to cover the length of the green at Littleheath. The sewer pipe is then attached to the end and Is pulled back through the tunnel by Ditch Witch – job done!

Well, it sounds easy and the very helpful men who operate Ditch Witch, whilst tolerating the ill-informed foolish questions from your correspondent told him that this was a very simple job compared to many of the challenges faced by the indomitable Ditch Witch.
