This was the verdict on the proposed Fitness Room included in the design for the Public Hall Annexe, when a group of interested parties met to discuss the practicalities of it on Wednesday.

Some basic ideas about the organisation and funding were considered, and a number of desirable points covered.

  • The Big Lottery Fund bid will include about £5300 to cover cost of the equipment.
  • A "Fitness Club" (name yet to be finalised) will be formed and will run the facility.
  • Access will be controlled, but hopefully available from, say, 6am to 10pm.
  • The shower facilities will usually be available..
  • There will be a lower age limit for unsupervised access.
  • A qualified person will assess members before they use the equipment.
  • A monthly membership fee will be defined.

Audlem Public Hall has become an associate member of the Sported charity, which was formed in the aftermath of the London Olympics to provide help and advice for local organisations.

The Fitness Room is expected to become operational when the Annexe building is complete and open, hopefully in Spring 2017.

Until then, anybody who is interested in helping to set up the operation is welcome to join in – please contact Roland Hall (APHAx Chairman) in the first instance, at rolandhall@bryantsbottom.plus.com.
