Jessie's Autumn Poem

Glancing through my window
It looked a dreary day.
Lots of heavy, low clouds- brooding.
Not the best of views.

I turned away for a while
Only to return, later-
To see, almost, the same gloom
I watched for a moment or two-

Then, what caught my eye
Just made me smile
Cheered me up, somehow.

There, coming along the road
Towards the house
Were dozens and dozens
Of nut brown leaves!

Waltzing along in the brisk breeze
Not in any particular style,
Just twisting and turning, at will.

Not just waltzing,- leaping , jiving
Perhaps quickstepping, foxtrotting?
Maybe a Charleston, just for me!
Whatever their music, I didn't care

My imagination gave me free range
A lovely autumn sight – for me
