The 1st XI welcomed Mossley to the Gorse Croft in the Division 2 fixture and recorded a comprehensive victory by 119 runs in the match sponsored by Tyrepriceadvisor.com.
New skipper Neil Humphries won the toss and elected to bat. The visitors struck quickly as both Chris Shenton and Rich Wilson were dismissed cheaply, leaving Audlem 11 for 2. However a third-wicket stand between Andy Capper and Tom Measures took the score to 101 before Capper was out for 38. Andy Rothwell and Measures continued to pound the visitors' attack as they added a further 55 runs for the fourth wicket until Measures was caught and bowled, having scored 57.
Qhama Matthews and Paddy Leese both surrendered their wickets chasing quick runs, but Oli Burney joined Rothwell and they took the score to 205 for 6 before Humphries declared. Rothwell was 33 not out and Burney 11 not out.
Mossley were soon in trouble as Stuart Elkes ripped through the batting order. He took three quick wickets as the visitors slumped to 24 for 3. Only Tom Trevers offered any resistance, but when he was out for 32, becoming Elkes fourth victim, Mossley crumbled. Elkes and Lyndon Woodcock took a wicket each and the tail was mopped up by Humphries as Mossley were all out for 86. Elkes finished with 6 for 46 and Humphries had the remarkable figures of 3 for 0.
Audlem gained 25 points to move up to fifth in the table and Mossley 4.
On Saturday the 1st XI travel to play eighth-place Wilmslow. The match ball is sponsored by Audlem Physiotherapy Clinic.
