Could you help ADCA help local people?

This is a big week for local charity ADCA (Audlem and District Community Action). First, the weekly Tuesday Quiz at the Lord Combermere will help raise some much-needed funds for the charity, then on Saturday ADCA will be well represented at the official opening of the Public Hall Annexe, as its members will be among those to benefit from the splendid new facilities.

ADCA was formed in 2011 to provide help and support to a range of people in Audlem and District:

  • a weekly Day Club and a Coffee Club for elderly residents who are otherwise socially isolated;
  • a fortnightly Coffee Club to help and support those who give important help as carers, typically to other family members, and
  • a medical transport service through which volunteer drivers help those who would otherwise struggle to get to and from hospital, doctors and other health appointments.

Now ADCA is looking for more local people to step forward and become volunteers to help it to deliver these valuable services. In particular, it would like to expand its existing pool of medical transport drivers: could you help?

You would need to have use of your own car (ADCA will reimburse mileage costs) and undergo a short training exercise and a DBS check, which ADCA will arrange and pay for. When ADCA receives a request for assistance, its office staff and volunteers contact the volunteer drivers to see if they can assist. The more drivers there are, the fewer times each driver will be called but (and this is important) ADCA never forgets the drivers are volunteers: there is no pressure to agree to any particular request and if it's not convenient, it's perfectly OK to say "sorry, no".

If you would like to find out more and talk to some of our existing volunteers, please come along to the Lord Combermere Quiz, or speak to one of the ADCA team at the Grand Opening of the Annexe on Saturday. You can also leave a message on the charity's landline, 01270 747163.

As a volunteer driver, you would be helping to provide an invaluable service to those residents in Audlem and district who do not have ready access to transport for medical appointments. You would also become part of a sizeable team of volunteers helping to make this community an even more caring and compassionate one.
