Rippo, on the Chatbox asked: "Could someone please remind me about the procedure to claim for damaged tyres due to potholes? 'Entered' one last night...4'x3' and now have a defunked tyre and a lovely set of photos.

"I thought they'd finally got round to fixing Coole Lane – how wrong I was! Someone such as a motor cyclist will get killed soon, travelling in the dark with holes that big."

Nuf-Said added this advice: "Rippo. Excellent guidance can be found by clicking here.

Nuf-Said added: "I can again only implore people to report potholes on this site. The council's first response is always to say they didn't know about the defect and that they follow a statutory inspection schedule which did not show a fault when last done. Thus they deny liability. If potholes are recorded publicly they can't claim this. Is anyone interested in forming a group to record & report sytematically, each taking "ownership" of specific stretches of road?"

Rippo has kept us informed saying: "Now proceeding with claim for my damaged tyre after venturing down Coole Lane... Direct tel no., 0300 123 5020 to obtain personal reference no. From this need to email engcn@cheshireeast.gov.uk to describe details and make claim....we'll see if this works!"

We hope Rippo will let us know how the claim proceeds and whether Cheshire East pay up for the damage their lack of road inspection and maintenance has caused. In the meantime, we urge all who have tyres damaged by potholes to submit claims.

Sooner or later the council may learn it is better to resurface roads the way they once were rather than filling (or not filling very often) the potholes inadequately and having to pay compensation for the damage caused by the appalling state of the roads.
