In our last meeting before the summer break, Keith Lawrence will give a talk about how the Civil War impacted on Cheshire, a county divided in its loyalties between the Parliamentarian and Royalist causes.
Initially Cheshire tried to remain neutral in the conflict but was eventually drawn in. Keith will talk about the 2nd Viscount Kilmory of Shavington Park, Adderley who was appointed by King Charles 1 to raise forces for the Chester garrison.
He will also highlight various Cheshire locations which played a role in the war.
Keith is director of the English Civil War Centre at Nantwich Museum and has written extensively about the Civil War, turnpikes and other aspects of local history. His talks to our society are always well received.
The meeting will take place in the Scout and Guide Hall in Cheshire Street, Audlem on 17th May and starts at 7.30pm.
Non-members welcome.
