Christingle Service at St.James on Sunday 2nd December at 4.00pm.

When does Christmas begin? Some would say in August  but with the Big Switch On this Thursday there is an unavoidable sense that Christmas is on the way.

This Sunday, in the ancient calendar of the Christian church, sees the beginning of the season of Advent. It was a time of fasting to prepare for the celebration of the feast of Christmas (not a bad idea really!)

Although it included food, it was more of a spiritual time of reflection. Even for some today time out in the busyness of Christmas preparations to engage with the meaning of the Christmas story for ourselves today is a very healthy exercise and worth while trying.

At St. James, our Christmas services begin this Sunday when we hold our Christingle Service. This popular family occasion has its roots in the Moravian Church of the 19th Century. More recently it has been introduced through the Children's Society and as well as being a reflection on the Christmas story is also a way of practically entering in the Christmas spirit of giving.

If you haven't been to a Christingle Service before, don't miss it! If you have then, you won't want to miss it. This is a service for ALL the family to appreciate, even teenagers! If you 0-100yrs come along to St. James on Sunday at 4.00pm.

See you there – you will receive a warm welcome.
