Following yesterday's news that Gladman Developments was to go straight to appeal over its plan to build 120 homes at Little Heath in Audlem because Cheshire East has not dealt with their planning application, they say, in the statutory time of 13 weeks, there was local concern about how Cheshire East Council would react.

Would the council still fight the appeal as their leader said they would at July's Audlem Parish Council meeting despite the application not being considered by councillors and planners as it was going straight to appeal?

Councillor Michael Jones, Leader of Cheshire East Council, said last night: "I am against this development and this behaviour. I am horrified at the apparent arrogance of a developer to override process to try and ensure success.

"It shows scant regard to the people of Audlem and of Cheshire East. We will defend this vigorously."

Chairman of Audlem Parish Council, Phillip Johnson, said: "I am pleased to hear that Cheshire East will defend this vigorously. Ideally, I would prefer them to say that they will fight the application and totally oppose the proposal.

"Further, I want them to spell out in detail to the Parish Council the ramifications of Gladman going straight to Appeal and bypassing the democratic process."
