The Chatbox is back

After much soul-searching and with a couple of procedural modifications, the Chatbox has been reinstated on Audlem Online as of this morning.

Chatbox was suspended while almost the entire webteam were sunning themselves in foreign parts. There have been many requests for its return (if not for theirs).

The changes are designed to reduce the occasional lapse into vitriol which takes place from time to time, when good-natured banter and light-hearted comment descend into a thoroughly unpleasant exchange of personal remarks. Very often these exchanges end up with their venom directed at us, the webteam, for attempting to arbitrate.

So, henceforth, a valid e-mail address will be required when a Chatbox item is submitted – this will not be published or revealed, but will mean that the webteam can check the real authenticity of a posting and can get in touch with the poster if necessary.

In addition, the code of conduct which we have always followed for items appearing on the website will be more prominent (available by a direct link).

Meanwhile, we, the webteam, will go on trying to keep the chatbox as a forum for interesting, witty, informative and quirky views on village life and the world in general.
