Cemetery talk tomorrow

A reminder that Ralph Warburton will be talking about the Audlem cemetery and its records tomorrow evening, 7.30pm at the Scout & Guide Hall.

Unfortunately most of the stones from around the church have been moved so early graves are hard to find. We often have requests from people all over the world tracing their ancestors. There is no need to wander about in the cemetery looking for a particular grave, he can tell you the exact spot from the records (although there is often no memorial, which may disappoint, but people had other demands then as now on their money).

He has supplied me with one of the large maps showing every location – rows labelled alphabetically starting from the entrance.

Burials started there in December 1874. If you haven't visited recently do check out the new memorial for those in 'paupers' graves and the distinctive Commonwealth war grave stones for the fallen servicemen.

If you want to know more, the History Society will be delighted to welcome you – a fee of £2 is charged for visitors.
