Many of our readers will know that articles about missing / lost /dead cats have in the past generated much interest and AudlemOnline has in many cases been helpful in restoring such cats to their concerned owners.

So we thought it might be of interest to relate the story of the cat belonging to a webteam member who disappeared for five months before being found and returned to its owners.

Approximately five years ago in August, a webteam member moved into the village from some two miles outside Audlem into a house in which some significant building work was undertaken.

The owners' cat, Millie, was unhappy with the move and at initially being kept indoors, but the last straw was the noise of the building work and she made a dash for freedom – and was nowhere to be seen after much searching.

AudlemOnline published a request for information of any sightings and the telephone number of the owners.

Time went by through a harsh winter and the owners assumed the worst. Then came the most amazing news in early February when Olive Stretch discovered a very dishevelled cat in the field behind her house, obviously very hungry. She kindly took it in, gave it food and put it in a warm outside building whilst she sought the owners.

In talking to people in the Church it was recalled that two people had advertised on AudlemOnline lost cats and provided the telephone numbers. Olive rang the first number and it immediately became apparent to the webteam member's wife that the description fitted their missing cat. On visiting the cat full identification was confirmed and although her hair was badly matted the cat seemed to have survived her wintry ordeal and with adequate food.

A visit to the vet resulted in her hair being shaved off except for her head and feet, which took some three months to grow back.

So the cat returned after five wintry months with the help of AudlemOnline and particularly Olive Stretch, to whom much thanks must go, for taking the cat in and caring for it whilst seeking its owner.
