The Lord Combermere pub in Audlem has received the prestigious Cask Marque award for the quality of its ales.

The Cask Marque scheme is operated by a Trust, a non profit making organisation dedicated to ensuring superb beer quality in selected pubs.

Cask Marque inspectors first visited the Lord Combermere in January and then made three unannounced visits by independent assessors to check the beer.

This week, on Tuesday, came the good news that the Lord Combermere was to be awarded Cask Marque status. Inspections will continue, as with all pubs awarded the Cask Marque, at least once in the summer and once in the winter. The assessor checks all the cask ales on sale for temperature, appearance, aroma and taste.

There are relatively few pubs in south Cheshire with the Cask Marque recognition: a few in Nantwich, the Thatch in Faddiley and the Boars Head in Walgherton.

Allan and Jo Brown at the Lord Combermere are delighted as they have worked hard to bring an interesting range of national and local real ales to the pub which are proving increasingly popular. These include Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Wells' Bombardier and Greene King IPA plus more local ales such as the Salopian range.

Last week the Salopian ale on offer was the very popular Golden Thread while this week – as long as supplies last – it's the refreshing Salopian Lemon Dream, possibly the most popular ale at last August's Audlem Beer Festival.

Visitors to the Lord Combermere will now see the Cask Marque logo proudly displayed on the ale pumps, yet another good reason for a visit to the popular village centre pub.
