The carol singing in the Square last night was, as always a hugely popular event. Ralph Warburton of ADAS writes: "I would like to say huge thank you to all who helped put on such a good family event. The atmosphere there made for such a lovely warm occasion. The bell ringing by Andrew and his team made the night get off beautifully. The work by Bill on the microphone was excellent and comments to me by the crowd were very good with all hearing the broadcast. The collection was superb* – our best ever. A big thank you to the five bucket collectors! And big thanks to Ronni for coming to help."

"The ASET team again operated with super efficiency in ensuring safety and lighting. Control by our Policeman, Ken, was calm and efficient."

"Santa distributed over 200 sweets – so there must have been many children there – which is just what we wanted.

A great happy village affair and yet again a new sponsor for our future big tree came forward. Sincere regards and a very Happy Christmas to all."

The Mayor of Crewe & Nantwich, Councillor Howard Curran; The Mayoress, Mrs Sheila Curran; The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Maurice Jones and the Deputy Mayoress, Mrs Ann Jones all attended the event.

After the carol singing, large numbers gathered in the Lord Combermere for a very convivial evening, and thanks too to Steve and his staff who provided warming soup to many during the carol singing. Many others went to the Scout & Guide Hall where mince pies and mulled wine were provided. This gave the Hall committee an opportunity to raise further funds for their restoration appeal and an opportunity for people to see the huge amount of work completed inside the hall.

*The collection at the carol singing raised £489 which, as was announced last night, is split between the band and village causes.
