All his regulars know that the meat sold by Charles, Audlem's butcher, is first class. But now there's an added bonus – you can use debit or credit cards too at the shop on Cheshire Street.

C E Vernon provides high quality, locally sourced beef, lamb and pork. Bacon, ham, sausages, burgers, pies and condiments are also sold as well as a range of frozen foods.

Orders are taken for bulk freezer meats.

There's a host of arguments for buying meat from a local butcher. As well as being able to buy top quality meat just as you want it, rather than pre-wrapped, it's been estimated that spending £10 locally adds around £25 eventually to the local economy as local shopkeepers also tend to spend locally.

On Saturday a special exhibition, ADAPTability, is being held in the village and one of its aims is to encourage local shopping. Audlem Online, as part of this event is running a series of articles this week on Audlem's local shops.

The village has seen a remarkable retail expansion in the past year with eight new shops.

The ADAPTability event in Audlem on Saturday 2nd October from 10.00am – 3.00pm at the Methodist Church Hall. The exhibition will feature local products, encourage local shopping, growing food locally and energy saving and small-scale production.
